It’s an exciting time to join Honeywell. Selected candidate will have an opportunity to showcase their Process Controls Engineer engineering skills in a challenging position at our Metropolis. Illinois, Plant.

Honeywell Performance Materials & Technologies is a global leader in providing customers with high-performance specialty materials, including fluorine products; specialty films and additives; advanced fibers and composites; intermediates; specialty chemicals; electronic materials and chemicals; and technologies and materials for petroleum refining.

The Metropolis Site, located in Southeast Illinois, is one of the manufacturing facilities supporting the Honeywell Fluorine Products business, a $900 million business segment of Performance Materials and Technology. The site manufactures products that support the nuclear power market.

The Process Controls Engineer is responsible for deploying and maintaining automation and controls at the Metropolis plant (where the controls are primarily based in an Experion DCS, but there are also some PLC and local panel controls slated for future conversion to DCS). The controls engineer serves as a key team member on all phases of capital projects, from scoping through design and implementation. Responsibilities are centered around control system configuration, commissioning/checkout, and related activities to ensure successful deployment. The controls engineer also provides operations and maintenance support to troubleshoot existing instruments and process controls. Capital project load and plant support responsibilities are divided up and shared by several controls engineers working at the site.

Responsibilities Include:
• Provide key input to front-end development for projects requiring instruments and controls – to include providing controls specifications.
• Provide input and complete required deliverables for project design and construction packages.
• Participate in PHA reviews and provide input on interlock and control strategies as they relate to process safety.
• Configure new I/O and logic in the DCS (or PLC) per the controls specification, including any required sequencing, interlocks, alarms, HMI screens, and historical trends.
• Work with production engineers to ensure that operating procedure updates address the new controls.
• Develop commissioning strategies for new I/O and controls – to include initial loop tuning.
• Provide training or instruction as necessary on new/modified controls.
• Provide support to site operations and maintenance groups to maintain existing automation and controls.
• Work with outside consultants as the plant liaison to ensure the server system is kept up-to-date.
• Work with operators/supervisors/technicians/engineers to identify improvements to plant automation.
• Encourage best practices to be shared to ensure industry, corporate, and site standards are being utilized on a daily basis
• Respirator usage is required for occasional work in areas with airborne dusts. Arc flash and shock protection PPE may be required for occasional work around energized circuits (as part of process troubleshooting or loop checking activities).
