Why It’s REALLY Hard To Find The Right Expertise

Below is a posting from INDEED, the jobs board, of an ad posted by Occidental Chemicals. The ad spends an extraordinary amount of space on how great it is to work for Oxy with it being such a “growing, action-oriented” company. Fact is, there’s a lot of grandiose self promoting terms which are lush and lavish about how wonderful it is to work there. Unfortunately when it comes to describing the job, it’s a bit like working in a fog.

Those of us who have been around the process controls industry know that it’s not adequate to slap “DCS” in myriad places on an ad. With all of this, then never mention what brand of DCS they actually have! Those of us who have been around the industry awhile know that competence in handling a system is based on competence and experience with the specific system involved.

It’s a pity the person who wrote this probably couldn’t have spent more time with the specifics of what it would take to actually do the work. Instead I suspect a vast pile of digital resumes will be stacked up with a small percentage of them actually able to be considered.
