So, for fun today I decided to pretend I was an Emerson DeltaV programmer and I wanted to change jobs.  Now in the process control world I am GOLD, but that’s beside the point. If you happen to plug into the massive job database Indeed, there’s no doubt you’ll find hundreds of openings for what I do.  Hundreds. I know because I have DeltaV openings on my Feedly page.

But let’s say you pick one opening. Just how easy would it be for the average DCS Rock Star programmer to actually inquire or send an email about a posting? Let me show you:

First click this link:

That will take you to the general job description which looks like this:

Blah, blah, blah,,, but still no contact, still no PERSON to actually speak with regarding my valuable skills, abilities, and experience.

At the bottom though, there’s another link:

APPLY NOW!(You will be redirected from the Emerson careers site)

And if you click on that, you’ll got here:

which basically is a path to Monster.com. And of course no, I don’t have a login ID or password, which basically means, I’d have to go here:

Naturally I will have to fill in all of these fields thereby handing over all of my information not simply for a prospective position, or even a prospective employer, but rather to a worldwide job board which pretty much has the ability to post this and will allow anyone with a license to review my background (which might also include my CURRENT employer.

Hmmmm, and Emerson wonders why they face such shortfalls in talent for their customers???
